Forest and Nature Schools support an educational ethos and practice centred around the land and the child at play.
We build a relationship with the land through regular and repeated access to the same outdoor space over an extended period of time to create a place of trust, stewardship and growth.
Going outdoors is widely accredited as being one of the best things we can all do for one's health. Whether it be mental, emotional, physical or spiritual.
Children who spend time outdoors and have child-led, unstructured play, on a regular basis have greater resilience, ability to regulate their behaviour, improved motor skills as well as an increased ability to focus.
As with many things, it is not the case with good planning. We do a thorough site risk assessment before every program and, by allowing children to experience appropriate risky play, we aim to teach them how to manage their own sense of risk. Facilitators are trained in standard first aid and have lots of experience in these environments.
We truly believe in the statement that there is no such thing as bad weather but inappropriate clothing.
Different weather situations are a great learning opportunity for everyone. No day is the same, we change our clothes and adapt our activities depending on the weather and temperature.
While we do intend to carry on with every session, we still feel very strongly that it must be both safe and enjoyable for everyone involved. As such, you will be notified of a cancelled session due to dangerous weather, such as a storm, strong winds, or deep colds.
